We were introduced to Kevin by our Realtor and from the first meeting, we felt immediately comfortable and confident that Haven Creek Homes was going to be our builder. The process of building with Haven Creek Homes was super easy and very low stress. Kevin was great to work with, patient, and very responsive. He helped us shape the house into exactly what we wanted while helping us keep our cost low. I couldn't imagine doing this process with anyone else.

We changed things along the way and Kevin was great at accommodating and assisting with making those custom changes happen. We added a finished basement mid-project and Kevin was able to complete the basement without delaying the build for us and that was huge! When we sold our house ahead of schedule, Kevin and his team worked hard to meet the demand of getting us into our home on time. Just wanted to touch base with you. Ryan and I actually just found a home within the past few weeks that we have put an offer in on and it has been accepted. It is an older home that needs a little TLC and renovation work, but it is in our ideal location, and Ryan is able to build as large a garage as the city will allow (we found a home right in Big Bend).

We really would have preferred to find a lot and build a home, however were coming short of all of our big requirements (location, not in a subdivision and ability to built a large outbuilding). We cannot even begin to express our appreciation to you for all the time and effort you spent in meeting with us and trying to find us a lot. My name is Kathy Becker and I would like to write a referral letter for Kevin Lazarski (Haven Creek Homes) as a potential builder for the construction of your new home. We have our house listed to sell and when it does my husband and I plan on building a new home. Four of the five houses we have lived in since we got married were built; all around Waterford. We had the same builder for the last two homes and we were extremely pleased with the entire building experience. We were very disappointed to learn that the builder we had been using went out of business. We then started the process of looking for a builder that would do as good of a job as our former builder. We met with five different builders including Haven Creek Homes, even having some preliminary plans drawn with some of them. For one reason or another we didn't feel comfortable with any of them except Kevin. He listened to all our ideas, helping us in areas we weren't sure about yet never pushed his ideas on us. We met with him several times and no matter how many or how small the changes we wanted to make he was patient and always seemed to understand that building a house is a huge undertaking and we wanted everything perfect. He took time to take us to see a couple of his homes in various stages of building so we could see the quality of his work which, by the way, we were very pleased with. Many people feel that building a home is a very stressful undertaking but with good communication between yourself and your builder it can be a wonderful and exciting experience. My husband and I believe Kevin will be exactly that type of person to work with. We are very anxious to sell our home and have Kevin begin building our new one.

Good Afternoon -

Kevin Lazarski told us that you were considering using him to build your new house and asked if we would drop you a note letting you know about our experiences.
We met Kevin in August 2007 and emailed him inquiring about his program. We just got occupancy on our new home last Friday. We worked with Kevin for over two years before we signed a contract with him to build. We weren't ready as we had a house to sell (owned two at the time - long story!) and then wanted to find land first.

When we first started looking to build our home, we considered a few options. We have a friend in Michigan who builds modular homes so he set us up with a local contact and met with him. We went through multiple open homes and talked with some of the big builders. We attended a home building expo and talked to a lot of builders there. We looked at the do-it-yourself programs and my husband, Kevin, read a book on general contracting it ourselves. Just a little background on us - we are very conservative people and are very skeptical and cautious. This is the first home we built, we wanted to do things a certain way, knew the layout (for the most part) that we wanted, and wanted to find a way to get the most bang for our buck. We narrowed our search down to Kevin and the do-it-yourself program. At that time I asked Kevin for a list of references to contact. I contacted five people who were all at different stages in the building process and I contacted five of his sub-contractors. Our builder friend helped us with what to ask. We asked some pushy questions - did he pay his contractors on time? how far away from his initial bid did the ending cost end up being? what was one thing you wished you would have done differently? and lots of questions about communication.

These are some of the reasons we signed with Kevin -
1. He has returned every phone call and every email within a day (unless he was out of town)
2. He is very honest
3. When challenges come up (and they will) he works with you to work through them where other builders would not be willing to do that.
4. His program allowed us to save money by painting all of the walls and staining all of the wood trim and doors ourselves.
5. His program allowed us to save money and have exactly what we wanted by allowing us the flexibility to purchase our own items (flooring, cabinets, counters etc.)
6. As we were looking for plots of land, Kevin would drive out and look at them and provide us feedback on whether or not the land was good!
7. We found that with Kevin's program, we found his price per square foot to be the best without sacrificing quality.

We price shopped a lot and ended up buying our own -
Flooring (with the exception of the carpet in two bedrooms as Kevin was able to get us a better deal than the sale price)
All cabinets for entire house
Counter tops
All lighting fixtures
All appliances

We had some unique things with our house that we wanted to incorporate. We wanted a walk-out basement and wanted to install indoor/outdoor kennel runs. This required dog doors to be installed in the walls. Kevin drove over to some friends of ours to take a look at what the finished product would look like and took photos to ensure that he understood our vision. Also, we wanted to put a drywalled arch over our kitchen cabinets with some puck lighting to shine down on the counters. Some other friends of ours did that in a house they built themselves in 2008. Kevin drove over to their house and also took photos of their arch to ensure that he knew what we were looking for.

My husband and I have extensive experience managing large projects as we are chairmen for the Racine Kennel Club all-breed dog shows every summer. We are very detail oriented. Overall, we were pleased with the overall process of working with Kevin. We are glad that we used Kevin for our home and if we built another home with a general contractor, we would definitely use Kevin again. For the known items in our contact, we came in under budget. We added a few upgrades along the way and Kevin was very flexible with those items and super easy to work with!
